THE FORMULA 1 CIRCUS

For decades Formula 1 has been about the pinnacle of motorsport, always pushing the envelope, introducing new technologies that would pave the way for road car development. But more importantly Formula 1 was a gentleman’s sport, there was honour and integrity and class. Well sad to say i have seen that degrade and slowly disappear the past 15 years and last sunday’s race at Germany is another perfect example. Even the great Michael Schumacher was a really dirty player back in the Ferrari days.

Today Formula 1 is never without controversy or scandal, it is full of lies, deceit, cheating, and even character assassination. There’s the crash scandal of the 2008 Singapore GP, the Mclarent-Ferrari spygate scandal, the McLaren liar-gate scandal, the 2002 Austrian GP team order scandal, and this is just to name a few.

THEN there was yesterday’s repeat to the latter with Ferrari giving a team order to make Felipe Massa let Fernando pass him to claim an undeserved victory.

It seems the whole character of Formula 1 has mutated into something we would normally expect from politicians or people in office. Yet now it seems that the sport is all about money and self gain. Back then you needed to be a REALLY good driver to be able to be called a Formula 1 driver, these days all you need are deep pockets and good connections and you can drive. I feel bad for all those really talented drivers who don’t have the arena to showcase their skills, simply because they can’t afford to pay for a driver seat in Formula 1.

I think it is a shame and that the FIA should stop allowing all these rich spoiled kids to race in this once prestigious series. Bring back the Ayrton Sennas, the Niki Lauda’s, the Jackie Stewarts, the Nelson Piquet’s (not the cheating son but the father) I wish Formula 1 could just stop all the politics and go back to what it was all truly about….RACING.
